On October 17, the feast day of St. Gurias, Archbishop of Kazan, and the Synaxis of All Saints of Kazan, the Divine Liturgy was celebrated in our church. The service was presided over by the rector of the parish, Archpriest Vadim Zakrevsky.
In his sermon, Father Vadim drew particular attention to the spiritual significance of the Sacrament of Repentance and the reception of the Holy Mysteries of Christ. He emphasized that confession consists not merely in acknowledging and enumerating one’s sins, but above all in sincere repentance, recognition of one’s spiritual weaknesses, and a genuine desire to amend one’s life.
Father Vadim placed special emphasis on the need for constant inner spiritual effort, so that, having recognized one’s sins, a person strives not to repeat them. It is precisely this labor of spiritual transformation, requiring humility, patience, and determination, that often proves most difficult for our frail human nature.
Father Vadim reminded the faithful that true repentance is not limited to words, but must bear fruit in our actions, in the desire for spiritual renewal, and in a life lived according to God’s commandments.
