This day is also commemorated as the Synaxis of the Seventy Apostles.
In his sermon, Father Vadim noted that quite often, due to human weakness, a person almost immediately after Confession and Holy Communion finds it difficult to refrain from returning to former sinful actions.
The Holy Orthodox Church treats this weakness with understanding, much as an experienced physician may foresee the further course of a patient’s illness.
However, as Father Vadim emphasized, this does not absolve a person of responsibility for spiritual struggle. One must make efforts to overcome oneself or, at the very least, not resist the saving opportunities which the Holy Orthodox Church, with love and patience, offers to us.
